Imagine Your Ideal Lifestyle

Part 1 - Meditation/Visualization

Let’s begin a meditation and visualization, which will last about 15 minutes. In preparation, please find a comfortable seat and begin to center yourself, ground downward and relax inwards. Maybe close your eyes or take some deep breaths and shoulder rolls.

For this meditation and visualization please let your dreams carry you away; everything you choose to visualize in this exercise should be exactly what you want it do be. There are no limits or constraints— this is your perfect world.

If at any time you find yourself bringing in thoughts of how things are right now or how they can’t be what you dream them to be, please acknowledge that, pause and bring yourself back to this being a fun exercise where you truly explore your ideal lifestyle centered around your home and possessions. This will allow you to more clearly identify what brings you joy and happiness and will help you in confidently answering the question, “Does this spark joy?”

ARRIVING HOME

  • Visualize arriving at your ideal home; this could be your current home or your dream home. Let yourself be carried away by your imagination and true ideal lifestyle.

  • Notice how you arrive: by car, walking… and tune into the details, how do you feel, what do you notice. What are you carrying are there any tasks or chores you do on your way in?

ENTERING HOME

  • Now imagine you are entering your home, what is this experience like, what do you hear, what is the temperature, what do you first see, are there any specific scents or smells?

  • What are the first things you do, what do you do with the things you are carrying? Do you say hello to anyone? Do any pets greet you?

LIVING ROOM

  • Next visualize the common areas of your home, the living rooms, or dens. What do these spaces look and feel like? Make yourself comfortable in this space. Notice the colors, textures, sounds, and scents.

  • Do you notice any obvious home décor themes? Remember the sky is the limit!

  • Now, imagine your phone rings and close friend asks if he/she can stop by, how does it feel to prepare for them to come over? Remember you are in your ideal home, so make this part easy! Maybe all you do is turn on some hot water for tea!

  • Take a moment to visualize any additional aspects of these common spaces that are important to you.

KITCHEN

  • Move into your kitchen. Notice how you feel in this space. What is the energy you feel in the room? Are there any smells or sounds? Maybe open up the fridge, cupboards or pantry— look around and examine the details.

  • Maybe you begin making your favorite dish or grab an afternoon snack. What do you notice, what does it look and feel like, tune into smells, sounds and tastes.

  • We can’t leave the kitchen without visualizing doing a few chores. Unfortunately, we still have to do chores in our ideal home. Imagine cleaning up, doing the dishes, putting things away. Maybe setting the table for guests or packing lunches. What are these activities like in your ideal home?

  • Take a moment to visualize any additional aspects of your kitchen that are important to you.

BATHROOM

  • Next visualize your bathroom spaces. Visualize your ideal bathroom routine, bathing or showering, styling your hair, putting make up on, any other grooming activities.

  • Notice the energy of the space, again paying particular attention to what you see, colors, textures, sounds and scents.

  • Spend a few moments visualizing the process of cleaning this space, maybe choosing one of your least favorite chores and walking through that chore specifically under these ideal conditions. See if you can reframe the activity with lighter and positive energy in your ideal life.

  • Spend a few more moments visualizing any additional areas or aspects of this space that are important to you.

GARAGE + STORAGE SPACES

  • Now we will transition from the bathroom to the more functional spaces of the home. Begin to visualize your garage and storage closet or drawers. Visualize going into one of these spaces— how do they function in your ideal lifestyle? What do you notice? Are there any sounds or smells?

  • Visualize a routine involving one of your hobbies that requires you to get or do something in this space. Notice this process.

  • Next visualize a routine that is more related to a chore that requires you to get or do something in this space. Visualize and notice this process and don’t forget we are in your ideal scenario!

BEDROOM

  • Now we will transition into one of the more personal spaces of the home: the bedroom. Visualize being in your bedroom or sleeping space— what is the energy like in this room?

  • What colors do you see, what textures do you notice? Are there any scents or specific sounds?

  • Visualize your ideal routines in this space— getting ready for bed, waking up, relaxing in this space.

CLOSET

  • Expanding on morning and evening routines, visualize your closet, set of drawers or space where you store your wardrobe. What is it like to interact with these areas of your home? Remember we are living your ideal lifestyle. Notice the energy of these routines and the colors, textures, scents and sounds that surround you.

  • Visualize getting dressed and ready for the work day.

  • Next visualize getting dressed for a fun evening out.  What is that process like in your ideal space?

  • Now it’s Sunday and you are doing laundry and weekly chores. What is this process like? How does it feel to put your clothes away, vacuum, tidy and clean?

  • Spend a few more moments in your bedroom and personal spaces to visualize any additional aspects of these spaces that are important to you or returning to something you previously visualized exploring it deeper.

MISCELLANEOUS HOME AREAS

  • For the last few minutes of this visualization, take yourself to any other area of your home you haven’t specifically covered or back to an area you did cover but want to explore in more detail. This could include a home office, a child’s room, laundry room or outside to a garden or patio.

  • Spend time visualizing the energy of the space, themes, colors, scents, sounds and even people, pets and plants.

Part 2 - Journaling

o   Write down what you saw during your meditation and visualization. Be as specific as you can and, if you want, go room by room.

o   Remember this is your ideal home environment so if something you visualize doesn’t make sense in that environment, no need to include it!

o   See if you can identify any themes within your home or maybe a theme in each room/area.
